I have a big issue with an excel file.

I have a shared excel file on a sharedrive. The option “Tools/Share
Workbook” help us to track the changes etc...

Now I want use this worksheet from our Sharepoint site instead of the share
drive.

I uploaded it from a shared drive, the workbook is now in my sharepoint
document library, but any changes can be saved, the following error message
appears "This file is locked, Try the command again later".

I want to be able to track the changes on this document and keep the
history of the changes that have been made.

How may I do? Is it impossible to share a workbook when the file in on a
sharepoint site? Does it exist a setting I missed?

Thanks in advance

If you drop the workbook into a IIS managed folder and access it from your
browser, you would see similar if not exactly the same behaviour. The HTTP
protocol does not allow the opening of Office Shared documents. Access dbs
have the same issue. So, it is not a SharePoint issue but a protocol one.

You may need to keep a bit of NTFS folder hierarchy for these type of files
and then expose that folder from your portal. We have internally built such
a web part to expose a NTFS folder to users and enable the multi-shared
access document types.

Check MSDN frequently :-) The guy has just finished the coding and is now
about to start the process of writing the article. We are probably talking
4-6 weeks, if he gets his finger out.
