You need to open Windows Explorer and under the "Tools" menu select "Folder
Options". Select the "File Types" tab and then for each extension that you
want to open in the actual program, rather than IE, select it and then click
the "Advanced" button. You will see a checkbox for called "Browse in same
window". Unselect that and it will open the document in the actual
program.

Gary - can this be applied as a policy through AD rather than as a manual
task?
thanks.

dont really understand the reply how will thi stop this
happenening for everyone ...
I dont think we are talking about the same thing at all.
When a user is in a document library and they open up a
document then the document appears in the same window and
not a new window.
Windows Explorer does not come into the bargain .. or am
I missing your point !!

You are missing the point. ;) This is not a feature of IE, but rather a
setting on each user's desktop.
