I was able to successfully get Portal back up after my Service Unavailable
problem, but I am unable to start the Search Service.

I get the following Error.

An exception occurred while trying to synchronize the state of service
'SharePointPSSearch' to Running. The operation will be retried in 1
minute(s).

The eventID is 308 and the sournce is SharePoint Portal Administration
Service.

I can't find anything on this and would appreciate any ideas you have!

Have you looked at the security of the service to make sure it has the right
credentials to start?

yes, I have made sure every single service that used an account as owner was
reset up and restarted just to verify.
I have the administrator of the domain as the owner for this and a few other
services that start.so I know it is setup correctly. Do you understand all
the hooks for successful startup?

Thanks,

Paul

Is this a small farm or a FARM period? If so, are you using a supported
configuration? Only certain setups/configurations are suppoted, and if
somehow you set it up a certain way, it may appear to work initially, but
really doesn't. Please review my previous post from yesterday / day before.

Good Luck,

Lindley

Well, I have been trying to find out if IIS had to be reinstalled, in

addition to SPS and WSS. Did they give you any KB that documented this?

Restore Portal >> Done.

Now everything works again.
