Client install |
|
|
I am running MOM 2005 in house currently. I am looking
to push clients to networks in other locations. Do I
have to manually install the clients, or can I push the
clients from my internal network? Do I only have to have
the one port open, or do I have to have multiple ports
open to do this?
Thanks |

According to the MOM 2005 security Guide
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/mom/mom2005/secguide4.mspx#EBAA):
"The Management Server uses the Server Message Block (SMB) port (TCP/UDP
445) and the RPC port (TCP 135) to deliver the files needed for agent
installation on remote computers and for updating agent settings after
installation...Disabling the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
and the Client for Microsoft Networks services disables the SMB ports."

To succesfully push the agents you need to have the DCOM range open |
also. And although James is correct in the ports used for pushing the
files, it also needs to be installed. And with MOM 2005 per default you
have mutual authentication which also can be problematic over firewalls.
After installing the agents you only have to open port 1270 for
encrypted communication.
The deployment guide and specifically chapter 4 has a good part on this,
