Change SQL backend in LCS 2005 |
|
|
I have installed an LCS 2005 Enterprise Edition server and it's working
fine. In production, we will be backing up the SQL database that the pool
is pointing to. For my disaster recover procedures, I need to determine how
to point LCS to a different SQL server in case the current SQL server fails.
I would point LCS to a new SQL backend using the backed up database files.
I can't, however, find any documentation on this. Does anyone know how to
do this and/or where it is documented?
Thanks. |

LcsCmd.exe provides UpdatePoolBackend action to change the backend a pool is
pointing to. You can find this info in command line documentation. (I think
the procuderes for specifically moving the backend of a pool to another
backend are documented in another document as well but I'm not sure which
one.)

Thanks for the info. I will give that a try tomorrow. Do you know the
default name of the database on the SQL server that holds the configuration
files?

The backend of a pool hosts two databases for LCS2005: rtc and rtcconfig. If
you are going to point a pool to a new backend, you must copy both these
databases.

For the benefit of the greater group, the procedure to change a BE server is
documented in the EE Pool Deployment Guide in a section called:
Additional Operations. 41
Changing the Database Used by a Pool 41
Here's a link to download the document:
