Hi Sir(s),

I have a SBS2000 server running in our office. I also have NAV Corp Edition
Server Ver.8 installed and I am downloading the definition updates every
week to protect against viruses. All win xp and win98 workstations are
installed with NAV CE Clients. All PCs have accessed to email and some PCs
have access facility for using Internet facility

However, I am frequently encountering problems with the following viruses
detected in most of the PCs.
w32.sasser.b.worm
w32.wullik.b@mm
w32.netsky.p@mm
w32.pixo
w32.blaster.worm
w32.beagle.ar@mm
w32.swen.a@mm
trojan.startpage
trojan.simcss
w32.mota.b@mm

Having installed with the above NAV CE package does not prevent from viruses
but it says quarantine succeeded and clean
failed. Can any one please advise me how should I protect viruses or what
is the best prevention software available?

I would remain highly grateful to you for your generous help.

with regards,
Chewang Dorji

Hi Chewang,

I am not familiar with NAV, but doesn't it have an option to simply delete
virus emails, in stead of putting them in a quarantine?

First and foremost change SAV to check every day.

OR depending on your bandwidth turn on the continuous update option on the
server and on the client machines...mine is set to 30 minutes......the
server checks Symantec every 30 minutes and the clients check THE SERVER
every 30 minutes.

That said, Marina is correct, in the realtime protection option for the
server and clients there is a dropdown that allows you to specify delete
viruses.

Besides downloading definitions every 30 minutes, i have each client perform
a FULL SCAN EVERY NIGHT at 3:00AM...the server does the same thing.

Now if you have support from Symantec, you can upgrade to their latest
release of Corp Edition which is 9 and I suggest that you do so.

It would also be wise to increase the security level in MS Outlook to
disallow attachments.

If you are using Exchange, you must have the SAV Exchange feature and
implement it as well.

Finally.....tell your user

DO NOT OPEN ANY EMAILS THAT ARE NOT EXPECTED!!!!! even if they are from
familiar sources..many viruses are received from other people that have YOUR
email address in their address book and their computer is infected.

Think of it as building a wall around your network....the less "holes" the
better to keep out the barbarians....

Good Luck

RickD
