I just installed iTunes and the iPod updater, then updated my iPod on a
relatively new Windows 2003 installation that hasn't given me any
trouble before now. But when I rebooted as requested at the end of the
iPod update, I started to get a BSOD almost immediately after the boot
starts. The screen goes black before I'm able to read what it says,
then attempts to reboot.

I can press F8 to attempt to boot into Safe mode, but I don't get far.
I get a bunch of messages related to loading drivers which scroll
quickly across the screen, ending with this line:
..... WINDOWS\AppPatch\drvmain.sdb

After about 15 to 20 seconds, the scrren goes black and it reboots.

I just recently converted this machine to my first domain controller,
and don't have a recent backup. I thought this version of windows had a
way to roll back bad drivers like this, but I can't seem to even get to
a point where I have any ability to fix things even in safe mode.

Can anyone help me out? What are my options at this point.

Should I email Microsoft and setup a support incident?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Since this is the only DC in your network,is it an urgent issue? If so, I
suggest you contact Microsoft Product Support Services via telephone so
that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please
be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.

To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a
look at the web site listed below.

<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS>

If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for
regional support phone numbers.

I suggest you use the following steps to disable the third-party serivce:

1. Restart the DC and press F8. Chosee Last Known Good Configuration. Can
you sucessfully login?

2.Recovery Console.
a. Insert the win2k3 installation CD, when the "Welcome to Setup" screen
appears, press R to start the Recovery Console or press R , and then at the
next screen, press C to continue to the Recovery Console.

Please refer to following KB to list the current running serivces and
disable all App related service and drives. It is the same in win2k3.

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

I believe teh system will reture to normal if you disable the app services.
