Unable to Ping Netbios name |
|
|
Hi,
I created a new w2k3 domain with my current nt 4 domain is still in
production. During the installation process, my w2k3 server gets an IP from
the nt4 dhcp. After the install, I changed the ip to static, install dns and
promote to AD. Also, I installed the WINS. My problem now is that I can't
ping my w2k3 ad machine by name from any machine in nt4 domain. The ip
address displayed is the old dynaminc ip when pinging. I checked the nt4 wins
to delete any mappings and there are none. I don't know what else I'm missing.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Taga,
Have you restart the netlogon service? Please use the following steps to
check the status:
1. Stop and restart "net logon" service by input "services.msc" in Run box.
2. Issue the command in CMD "ping win2k3Name -a", what is the result?
In addition, what kind of DNS you have installed on win2k3 DC,
AD-integrated?
Any update, let us get in touch!

Rebecca,
I have restarted the netlogon of the w2k3 dc and ping with -a and I'm still
getting request time out because it is using the old ip address. Aso, the DNS
is AD-integrated.
Thanks

Hi Taga,
Based on my research, I suspect this issue occurs since the NT wins server
has not updated the win2k3 WINS record. Please use the following steps to
check the status.
1. On win2k3 server, open network adapter connection properties, point the
original NT server as the WINS server.
2. Temporarily disable the WINS service on win2k3 server.
3. Restart the win2k3 server. This step will allow the win2k3 server to
register its new IP add to the NT WINS server.
4. What is the result now?
If the issue persists, please refer to the following article to create a
static WINS record on NT server for win2k3 server:
