Is there an issue if you change the IP address of your SNA servers?

Quiggley,

Not needed to do it myself, but, I seem to recall that the IP addresses are in
the registry somewhere under the SNA Server key. Just a case of updating those
as well as making the change on NT.

I have changed the IP address of several SNA Servers in the past. The only
time I ran into problems was if a client's SNABase configuration had the IP
address of the server under sponsor servers instead of the name of the
server. If that is not the case and you ensure that WINS is updated I don't
think you will have a problem. Do you have more that one SNA Server in
domain? If so then I would recommend allowing some time betweens changing the
IP addresses for each server.

Well we picked one of the twelve and it didn't work. The Windows domain
recovered after a few minutes or so but the SNA never worked. It had no
affect on the existing but the one that we changed could never find the SNA
environment. It's like it could see the SNA domain but it could communicate
with it. It would say there were no servers found in the SNA domain.

Are the SNA servers doing any local talking on the subnet that maybe they
can't accomplish over the router?

It doesn't do anything special/magic. Standard NT name resolution is done for
any names. Standard routing to get to IP addresses.
