Slow logon to Windows Server 2003 |
|
|
Hi everybody.
We have a Windows Server 2003 installed on an HP Proliant DL380.
Exchange 2003 and Terminal Services (Application Server Mode) is also
installed on the server.
When we logon to the server console after a restart or we logon to the
server via Remote Desktop, the server hangs for a long time (approx. 2 - 3
minutes) in the "Applying your personal settings" screen.
When client computers log on to the domain, it goes very fast, so it's only
a problem when logging on to server console or with Remote Desktop.
We have verified the DNS settings:
Under TCP/IP properties, the DNS address points to the servers ip address.
We are using forwarders configured in the DNS server property page, that
points to our ISP.
The DHCP Scope gives clients the DNS address of our server as the only one.
The server is of couse a Global Catalog Server.
Anyone have a clue what could slow down the login process to the server?
I'm looking forward to hear from you.
Kindly Regards
Thomas Larsen |

Re: Slow logon to Windows Server 2003 |

The hardware is a XEON 3.06 GHz, with 2 GB. Ram.
2 x 36 GB 15K speed Harddisks in Raid 1 (System drive)
5 x 36 GB 15K speed harddisks in Raid 5 (Exchange databases, AD, data drive)
There are two nics (10/100/1000) from Intel setup in a team.
Lan Speed: 2 Gbps.
When looking on overall performance, the server is bored :-) Doesn't use any
CPU, and uses 1 Gb. of Ram.
The Event Viewer doesn't show any errors or warnings...
Hope this is helpfull.
Kindly Regards
