Hello all,

My first post as I'm stuck and cannot find a solution on my current problem.

I'm currently doing a Disaster Recovery project for our company. I started off successfully restoring one of our Windows 2003 Domain Controllers and an Exchange Server 2003 server on different hardware.

Then I decided to wipe both and restart from scratch using later tapes (we use Veritas Backup Exec v9.1) But now I am unable to recover the same Domain Controller again. I followed my own recovery procedure by the letter, but I cannot get it restored.

My method is basically this...

1) Vanilla Windows 2003 Standard Server install.
2) Partition drives, install SCSI drivers, same IP config etc...
3) Install Veritas Backup Exec v9.1 and restore C:\ drive (excluding hardware specific files) and System State
4) Reboot

This worked before in the past, but now I get this error message on the reboot after the restore...

LSASS.EXE - System Error, security accounts manager initialization failed because of the following error: Directory Services cannot start. Error status 0xc00002e1. Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into directory services restore mode, check the event log for more detailed information.

This is explained fully in KB258062 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258062/en-us), but the annoying thing is, I CANNOT boot into Active Directory Restore Mode to perform the tasks they ask you to do. The above mentioned error message pops up BEFORE I can log in.

Performing repairs of the OS has no effect either.

Anyone know more on this? I do not know why it worked vefore, but now I get this problem.

Cheers,

NTGuy.
