Changing Domain Name |
|
|
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 which came with SBS 2003 pre-installed. When i
ran the initial wizard i put a domain name. The problem is that i want to
change the domain name as i have purchased a new domain. Please advise the
easiest way.

Flatten and reinstall.
A internal domain name is meaningless. It's only important to you. Run
the connect to Internet Wizard and change the email domain address.

Shiraz may find Susan's comment confusing (I know I do).
Shiraz,
there are two DNS names you should be aware of:
1) your Active Directory DNS name (internal)
2) your Fully Qualified Domain Name (public)
though theoretically the AD DNS name of an SBS can be changed, there's a lot
of places where it is embedded into the system. I _-*WILL NOT*-_ attempt to
change the AD DNS name of an SBS, nor assist anyone attempting to do so.
There is _-*NO REASON*-_ for your AD DNS name to in _any way_ reflect your
FQDN. An SBS with the AD DNS name of sbs.our.lan can quite easily handle all
the things it should, and many it shouldn't, for company.com.
