Is this why no one uses discussions? |
|
|
Alert notifications have to be turned on for EVERY thread and for EVERY
user.
This is a recipe for failure. I want everyone to use the Sharepoint boards
so that we'll have documentation and group awareness - 2 critical items.
Now I find that I can't even tell when some else has created a new thread
and I ignore their messages.
Is there a 3rd party mod that would enable a recipient or cc list for
threads? Alternatively, alerts really should be allowed by *board* as well
as by thread with a user specific 'opt out' option.
Please, someone give me some good news.

Nick,
I am not sure that I understand your issue. So I am asking for some
clarification.
Your first sentence and the next paragraph seem to contradict each
other. Are you looking for control of discussion alerts that are item
or topic specific? I take it that the board level of alerts is not
what you want because you get everything. But that is exactly what you
are asking for in the 2nd paragraph. What am I missing?

Thanks for the response.
We do want a board level alert with an option to opt out of alerts per board
or thread. The sites are each used for specific projects. Everyone
involved in each project - usually 2-4 people per each site/project - should
at least optionally be able to be be alerted to all posts.
Individual Sharepoint sites generally do not produce that much discussion
traffic. They serve us as a potentially superior alternate to email. With
the current blind system, there is no useful discussion traffic.

Also, just to be clear, what do you call a "board" when you say
"board-level? I refer to a board as an individual Discussion List. If
you create several Discussion Lists on the same Sharepoint site, that
would be several boards. If you mean board as in all separate
Discussion Lists within the same Sharepoint site, then you are correct
there's no way to set up alerts for all those separate lists through
one setting. I don't think this is how you mean it, but just wanted to
double-check. |

Heya Nick,
I can't tell from your posts if you complaining that there isn't a
board-level alert feature at all (which there is), or if you're saying
you know there's a board-level alert feature, but that you want to be
able to turn that on and then "opt out" of alerts for specific threads
on that board?
