MS approved way of disabling ChkDsk on a cluster |
|
|
Hey there,
We have a large volume on we want to disable ChkDsk on when when the machine
is rebooted if the disk is dirty. That way, the chkdsk can be scheduled out
of hours.
The machine is a W2k3 A/P cluster. I've found the following technet article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191603/EN-US/
Which described modifying the value of the AutoChkTimeOut key. I'm a little
confused, should this key be set to 0 or to a much larger value to disable
the automatic running of ChkDsk on a reboot?
Cheers. |

Hi,
If I understand you correctly, I believe you are looking at the wrong
article. Have a look at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;160963, which covers
how to exclude a drive from the startup autochk after a dirty shutdown.
Post back here if this does not help.

I have actually seen that article, however it says it's for W2k and NT only.
Can we confirm that it will work in a W2k3 environment as well?

As an aside, can anyone validate what will result from setting the
AutoChkTimeOut value to 0 on a machine will actually do? Will it kickoff a
ChkDsk automatically on reboot or disable it altogether?
Regards, James.

OK, I confirmed this. I'll have the article updated to reflect that it
applies to Windows Server 2003, as well.
Hope this helps.
