Changing DNS Structure |
|
|
Currently we have 1 Zone with mulitple domains listed under with subdomains
under that. My question is how do I move one of my domains out to be a zone?
If I create a new zone named the same as one of my domains how do I move all
excisting records?
Thanks,
Phil |

I correct myself...
We would like to make one of our subdomains from our 1 zone to become our
second zone.

Do all the clients in this domain support dynamic DNS registration?
If they do create the zone and run ipconfig /registerdns on all members and
DCs and restart the Netlogon service on the DCs.
Then delete the subdomain in the parent zone and create a delegation for the
sub domains name with NS Records for all DNS servers the zone is on
(Including itself).
As for exporting and importing individual records I don't know of any
utility that will do this. You just have to manually create the non-dynamic
records.

Thanks Kevin,
I was thinking maybe that I could do that because of the dynamic
update....Though I wasn't sure if I needed to delete the older subdomain
untill the new zone was populated.
We'll give it a go.
