Communicator 2005 - Stuck on "away" status... |
|
|
I have a user whos communicator is currently stuck on away mode. Restarted
communicator, same thing...Select to set it to online and it just ignores
that. I disabled the ability for it to pull information from outlook to see
if that was causing it - same thing...
Anyone seen this or know what could be wrong?
thanks

Remember if they are XP then Messenger is installed automatically and it
may
be sitting as away or do not distrub, etc.
You can also try resetting Communicator. Click the down arrow beside your
name (at the top of Commuincator) and select Reset Status. Also at the top
of
the Options part (Personal Settings) you can change the amount of time
your
system sits idle before Communicator marks you as away.
Let me know if any of these work.

Scott -
How is the user connecting to the LCS server (Server IP, Server Name, Pool
name, etc)?
Is this an LCS 2005 SE or LCS 2005 EE server?

LCS SE server...Strange...today, the machine is in the proper status, but
all day yesterday it was in away...I grilled the user on what they had done,
as far as they are concerned, nothing, it just worked today.
Strange...

....hope you used a rub and not a marinade...
In all seriousness... in an SE environment this may happen where the server
name or IP address, and not the FQDN for the server is utilized. Sometimes
it works right and sometimes it does not.
....and that is why GPOs and SRV records have spoiled several IT folks
rotten.

Re: Communicator 2005 - Stuck on "away" status... |

actually the SRV records tend to work like crap for me...Systems typically
start off connecting to the LCS server without specifying manual settings
and the IP address etc, they tend to start off with automatic configuration
work for a while then all of a sudden for no apparent reason (at least not
one I've found) they just stop connecting, I enter manual config TCP and
enter the IP and poof they work again. This is true of Messenger 5.0 and
Communicator 2005. Some are even stranger, I sometimes need to ipconfig
/renew to get them to reconnect regardless of manual or automatice
connection though during this entire time they have zero network
connectivity issues aside from this.
Weird...

Just one suggestion - instead of using the IP address, utilize the server
name or the enterprise pool name. If you use just the IP address, it can
cause some problems with presence and with message delivery.
