DomainDNSZones and ForestDNSZones |

I have a win2k and a win2k3 domain controller, where do I define the
domaindnszones and forestdnszones? I thought that it was defined under
forward lookup zones, in the same place as _msdcs, _sites, _tcp, _udp,
but I just wanted to be sure. |

You don't "define" those in the way you're probably thinking. They'll
present themselves automagically once you upgrade your domain to Windows
2003.

I am not going to upgrade the w2k to w2k3, I am just going to eventually
demote the w2k servers and put the w2k3 ones in their place. Should I
create these zones just as good measure, or will they show up sometime
during the process?

What exactly do you mean ther you will pout the Win2003 in their place? Do
you mean you will promote the 2003 machines to replica DCs in the existing
domain and then demote the 2000 servers? If so, you will need to run adprep
/forestprep prior to that. Once you've done that, and promoted the new
machines, the two application partitions (they are not zones) will manifest
themselves automatically, as Todd mentioned. They will not appear without a
2003 DC present in the forest.

Yes, that is exactly what I am planning to do. I have already ran the
adprep, etc. and am just checking everything before I promote the 2003
servers and demote the 2000 servers.
Thanks!

Cool. Glad you were able to read thru my many typos. :-)
Once you've demoted the 2000 DCs, the application partitions should appear
automatically.
