Network mystery, folder access disappears |
|
|
I have a strange network folder access problem. After a certain amount of
time has elapsed, anywhere from 10 min to an hour, I can no longer access
the network folder. The message says access denied, or simply hangs the
file explorer.
The big clue is that I can restore folder access immediately if I go into
control panel / network, and "repair" the LAN connection. Then after a few
min, the problem will happen again.
The system is a Dell Precision 470 with the Intel Pro 1000 MT onboard
Ethernet, running XP Professional. The network settings are very simple,
just TCP/IP with automatic DHCP, accessing file shares managed via an Active
Directory Domain server. |

I forgot to mention - the entire time, the TCP portion works fine (can
access the web, ping servers). It's just the NetBIOS that seems to randomly
drop the connection.

Hi
Am having similar issue with workstation on office LAN. Set up server with
DHCP and fixed address but still periodically drops access to mapped drives
which can be brought back when network connection is 'repaired'. Other
workstations encountered this a few weeks ago but now seem fine.
Any solutions yet?
