Hi All,

I tried adding the a web reference to the sharepoint web service through my
c# windows application. but when i type the URL and click go. i am repetedly
asked for username and password to access the url. At one point the following
error is thrown

There was an error downloading 'http://<server>/_vti_bin/dws.asmx'.

The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.

Please Help me on this

You might want to check the IIS security/permissions on the _vti_bin
virtual directory on the server (if you have access to it).

One thing to try is to open IE and put the URL in the address. You
should get the same error. If you have access to the web server, you
could try the same address but replacing the server with "localhost" to
see if you get a different result.
