Error Message: "The Request is not Supported" |
|
|
Colleagues,
I'm trying to create some DFS Roots on two Windows 2003 Domain Controllers.
I can create the first DFS Root on both server, without problems. But, when I
try to create the second DFS Root, I receive this following message:
"The following error occurred while creating DFS root on server
<Servername>.domainname : The request is not supported."
I appreciate any help to solve this issue.
Thanks,
Ricardo Leite. |

Are you running Standard Edition? If so, this edition does not support
multiple roots on a server. However, there is a hotfix you can install that
allows you to install multiple domain-based roots on a server running
Standard Edition. See the following KB for details:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;903651

Jill,
Ok, I have the Standard Windows 2003 Version.
I'm trying to call the phone (1-800-642-7676) to check how to obtain the
appropriate hotfix, but there is no answer...
Do you know another way to get this hotfix?
Thanks,
Ricardo Leite.

Jill,
Is that hotfix actually fixing a bug whereby this was supposed to happen but
didn't, or is it adding new functionality? If the latter, what spurred the
hotfix? Or was it intended for SP1 and slipped?
Thanks!

It's not a bug fix, and as you'll notice, it's specifically targeted at
domain-based roots only. We want customers to be able to increase the
availability of their namespaces using multiple root targets, and the
Standard/Web limitation of one root per server made this difficult.
I'm not sure whether this was ever intended for SP1.
