I have a Windows 2000 Server that has a CDRW drive available as H:and is not part of a Domain. This server is a standalone machine. If I try to access the CDRW drive I receive a dialog box that says, "H:\ is not accessible, Incorrect Function". The user account that is being used is Administrator. I have look in the local policies and have not found any indication that the drive is being disable through a policy, but that is not saying much because I am not sure that I am looking in all the right places. Does anyone know how this restriction to the CDRW could be set and how to re-enable the drive?

I doubt it is a problem with security configuration if the user is indeed an administrator as shown by the command net localgroup administrators. I would use Event Viewer to look in the system and application logs to see if there are any error or warnings recorded that may be related and give a clue. Also use Device Manager to see if there is a problem with the cdrom and examine it's properties. It could also just be that the drive is bad and in such case I just try to swap it out with a known good drive to see if the problem persists or not. Make sure you have a known good cdrom disk in it and not a DVD disk when you are trying to access it and also try booting into Safe Mode to see if that works. Below is a KB article link that mentions the error you receive but it applies to XP Pro but may be worth looking at anyhow. --- Steve
