some help understanding the file migration toolkit |
|
|
We needed to add another file server due to the space demands of one of
our departments. The old server is a 2000, and the new one is 2003. I
need to move only two folders from the old server to the new server.
Can this be done with the file migration tool? I went through the
documentation and it didn't look like I could select folders that I
wanted to move. I guess my other option would be an xcopy and make sure
that I copy all ownership and share information.
If someone has done this please let me know how it worked.
Thank you |

Hi,
Your purpose can be achieved by using File Server Migration Tool. I had
performed test on my test machine. After you select the source server, it
allows you to choose the folders to migrate to target server.

Thank you for your help. I will give it a try and see how it goes. From
what I understand the tool gives you a report on the status of the
migration before it completes the migration. This way you can stop if
there are any issues.
Thank you

Can this tool be used to migrate from a Windows 2000 server to a Windows

Hi Hank,
You can use FSMT to migrate the shared folders with permission.
