Dear All,

Can you tell me if it is possible to use Sharepoint Portal as an out of the
box solution for a larger project that requires the following:-

* displaying the results of queries from a seperate a database (some of this
data will be for public viewing while other parts will be protected via
logon and SSL.)

* provide certain users with permission to create and edit the database
records via web forms.

* can the permission groups e.g. contibutor, be expanded

Can anyone see any problems with adding this type of funtionality to
Sharepoint?

Thanks you for your asistance.

Depending on what you mean by "out of the box" the answer is yes. Can
SharePoint do this with no modifications to its system and no coding of
webparts....no. You may be able to some of this with the dataview webpart
found in FrontPage 2003 but I am not sure. Can SharePoint do this with no
modifications to its system but with some new web parts....absolutely.

Hi Gary,

Thanks again. I wasn't sure I was completely clear in my previous posts. I'm
more than will to get into the coding but I just wanted to make sure I
wasn't wasting time down a blind alley.

Once again thank you.

Vassone..
