2K3 Enterprise - Creating Cluster name... consistently blows |

I have been struggling with clustering two nodes that I have rebuilt
twice changing their names each time. I then began to build the
cluster, give the cluster a name and that's where the fun begins. No
matter what name I name the cluster, the wizard comes back stating that
the cluster name has been found elsewhere.
I am baffled by this. Names that the domain has no knowledge of... I
tried STUPID names, yet each time, the cluster wizard blows me up
stating that it has found <clustername> and stops in its' tracks.
Any ideas? I've never seen this before.

Rodney,
All of these builds were "by hand" fresh installs. Incidentally, the very
first time I set up the cluster, everything went smoothly. I am rebuilding
so that I can document the process, however, with things going so badly, I am
obviously at an impasse.
I was trying to think of any variable along the lines of what you mentioned
but I can't think of any that vary from my initial cluster build that
succeeded. What I really don't understand is that it apparently detects
cluster names that have never existed on my domain, nor were they ever
created by me.
Any more input is always welcome. I appreciate what you've given!

What is you build process? From an image? Try this on the new node - before
you cluster it:
cluster node machinename /forcecleanup
Replace machinename with the machine's actual name.

When you rebuild are you using the same machine names? Have you cleared out
DNS/WINS? Did you create an Internet group or static entry in WINS?

I will go remove both servers from the domain (at the server level, just
disjoin them). I'll go look for any DNS entries as well and remove them. I
suppose I'll do a rebuild from the ground-up with two new names (the original
cluster nodes and my rebuild nodes had different names so I wouldn't run into
this problem).
I'll see what happens and let you know. :)
