RE: switching from one DHCP server to another DHCP server |
|
|
Hello,
Thanks for posting!
Q: If I am de-activating the scope on the first domaincontroller and give a
ipconfig /release /renew my clients wont get a ip-adres from the second
domaincontroller?
A: Yes. You are right. The clients will maintain the IP address from the
first DHCP from x.x.16.2 -x.x.16.254 range. Since the Clients store the
local DHCP-related information in the Registry. These clients store the
DHCP-related information on the local system so that when the client system
boots, it can attempt to lease the same IP address again. If the first DHCP
is available, the clients will maintain the IP Address. Another advantage
of using local storage is that when a DHCP server is down, a client with a
valid lease can still use its allocated IP address.
More information for your reference:
119917 Location of DHCP Information on Local Clients

Hope the information helps. If there is anything that is unclear, please
feel free to let me know.
Thanks & Regards,
Jason Tan

| Hello,
|
| Im wondering if someone could help me with a problem im having.
|
| Situation:
|
| Running 1 domaincontroller with DHCP enabled
| scope : x.x.16.2 - x.x.19.254
| multiple clients using this scope but only from the first x.x.16.2 -
| x.x.16.254 range
|
| Running another domaincontroller with DHCP enabled the first
| domaincontroller will be shutted downed if everything goes well.
| scope : x.x.17.1 - x.x.19.254 so there will be no ip-conflicts (not
| using the range that is already in use (x.x.16.x)
|
| if im de-activating the scope on the first domaincontroller and give a
| ipconfig /release .. /renew my clients wont get a ip-adres from the
| second domaincontroller?
|
