Server-based DFS to domain-based? |
|
|
Hi,
I recently got a new job as a network admin, and one of my first
assignments was to setup a branch office. I installed a w2k3 server, and
created a vpn over a 2mb link to the head office.
Now i would like to use dfs replication to replicate some directories to
the branch office.
In our head office, we have a w2k server as the domain controller. DFS
is already running with a link to another w2k server in a different
building.
This was setup by our former network admin, and he made it a
server-based dfs. I got the "operation is not supported on a
server-based dfs" message when trying to create a replica.
I figured out that I need a domain-based DFS for
replication, it this correct ? Then, is there any way to replace the
server-based DFS with a domain-based DFS ?
Thanks for any help !
Dick

Hi Dick,
The main difference between Stand-Alone Dfs configuration and
Domain-based Dfs configurtaion is that Domain-based Dfs supports auto
replication and stand-alone doesn't. So, depending on your particular
needs, you may choose one or the other config.
