migrate Nt 40 doamian to win 2k3 AD... |
|
|
Hi, all..
my screion like that.
1 Nt40 PDC,act as file server,print server,wins server,dns server,DHCP
1 Nt40 DBC,not other role on it
150 client,including win98 se,win2k pro,winXP pro.
4 member server,Win2k server,win2k3 server. no exchange server.
My proposed upgrade path is like the below..
1,install Nt40 BDC in the new hardware.
2,patch the Nt40
3,sync allPDC and BDCs,then take old BDC offline.
4,promote Nt40 BDC to PDC,so the old PDC would demote to BDC.
5,during this term, migratition file server from old PDC to new PDC by backup
and restore method.
6,install win2k3 server in new PDC, and use unatted option to expand boot
partition.
7,use AD wizard to install AD in new PDC.
8,install DNS on new PDC
9,transfer old DNS record to new DNS.
10,install DHCP service in new PDC,
11,stop old DHCP,and start new DHCP
12,edit the scope setting ,enable client point the 1st dns server to PDC.
13,install all network printer.
14,let user to connect printer to new server.
that's all, it sound working, but still have some trouble, can not migration
smoothly...eg:user need connnect to the network printer once again. |

Hi Jeffery,
You plan sounds good. But I'm not sure what do you mean about "user need
connnect to the network printer once again". In factly you need to
configure the clients to access the printer accross the nework.
I would like to be of assistance, but I appreciate if you describe your
issue completely and clearly.
Thanks for cooperation.
Best regards,
Vincent Xu

Hi Jeffery,
Regarding the print service please refer to following site:
..1.mspx>
After the printer server is build, you need to deploy the printer in AD,
please refer to following article:
/directory/activedirectory/bpadprn.mspx>
Let me know If you have any concerns or questions about this.
Best regards,
Vincent Xu
