ADMT "under the hood" documentation? |
|
|
SUMMARY:
I have a post-computer-migration problem and a need to know what ADMT
Computer Migration (Translate Objects) does "under the hood". Does anyone
know if there is a document which might describe this in a very detailed,
technical way?
I've read the included help that comes with ADMT 2.0 and it is nowhere near
what I need. I've also read the "cookbook" chapters 9 & 10 and that too
didn't really give me what I need.
MORE DETAIL:
My focus is on what happens during the Translate (Security) Objects phase,
and more specifically which settings does the dispatched agent change when
it runs on the client PC.
I have an XP machine which got messed up after a Computer Migration. And
for various reasons running ADMT Undo is not a viable option. So I'm hoping
to find a document which would outline what local settings are touched by
the agent, especially for the objects: Local Groups, Registry, User
Profiles, and User Rights.
With such a document I might be able to solve my problems (which I'm
purposely not mentioning here... I've already tried that route... now I just
want the best info I can get on ADMT and maybe I can figure it out myself)
Thanks in advance!

Hi Rich,
I do understand your situation that the Windows XP is in a mess. However I
have checked the thread that Joe was working with you and I found you have
the same issue there. I suggest you follow this issue there for avoiding
conflict. In the future, please don't cross-post the same question in
multiple newsgroups. This will help our engineers work on your question
more efficiently. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.
Best regards,
Vincent Xu

Re: ADMT "under the hood" documentation? |

I posted this question in this PUBLIC newsgroup because:
(a) I was hoping ANYONE, perhaps a colleague or peer, and not necessarily a
Microsoft engineer, might know if the documentation I'm looking for exists.
The public groups are much larger forums so my chances of this could be
greater.
(b) The thread that Joe has been working on has been going on for 6 days.
There has been no resolution, and there also has been no advice given which
really addresses my current SPECIFIC problem.
It's been 1 week and I really need to fix the XP machine so that it is
stable and fully functional for all users, not just administrator-level
users. Frankly I'm just about to give up on getting the advice from MS that
I was hoping for. That is why I have shifted my focus to getting help
finding ADMT "under the hood" documentation. If I find that, then I can try
to figure out the fix myself.
This is why I made this NEW post in this public newsgroup. There is no
similar thread in the private newsgroup.
I think this post is entirely legitimate. Bottom line: I'm looking to see
if a certain technical documentation exists and maybe there is someone in
this newsgroup who knows the answer.
