Netware 5.1 to Win2003 >>>corrupted Office documents? |
|
|
We just upgraded from a Netware 5.1 server to Windows 2003 Small Business
Server. We upgraded both the OS as well as the server hardware. The data
on the Netware server was copied over to the data volume on the Windows
server. The problem is that all of the Office documents (Excel, Word, etc.)
that were on the server are now corrupted. Word documents are just
gibberish, and Excel gives an error that the file is an unrecognized format.
Attempts to import again yield gibberish. The only documents that are
unaffected are documents that were housed in users My Documents folders and
migrated to the Windows Server.
Has anyone experienced this, or have any suggestions? All I can think of is
the issue has to do with the Netware File System, but if that were it, I
would expect all of our other documents to be corrupted too (Adobe,
executables, etc.). Short of re-hooking up the Netware server, installing
the netware client on a PC, logging in to the old server, burning the data
onto a CD, and copying back to the new server, I have no idea how to
proceed.

Hello Milford,
According to your description, I understand that the Office files (Word,
Excel) cannot be opened after migration.
Since this issue only occurs in specific Office applications, I would
suggest you submit your questions in Office.misc newsgroup as where are
best suitable to help you on this specific Office issues.
Having said that, I also search some information for your reference.
1. Type the error message which you receive in http://support.microsoft.com
to see if there are any knowledge articles related to the issues.
2. The following articles include the basic information for troubleshooting
in Word or Excel applications. You can have a look at the methods and try
them to check if it helps.
