DNS error |
|
|
I ran DNS test on my server and recieved the following error.
DNS test
[WARNING] Cannnot find a primary authoritative DNS server for the name
servername.domain.com Error timeout
the name servername.domain.com may not be registered in DNS.
What exactly does this mean and how can I correct this error. |

Re: DNS error |

This means the IP address for DNS in the properties of TCP/IP does not hold
the SRV records clients of the domain must find in order to find the domain.
*Usually* this is because you have listed the wrong DNS server (ISP's DNS
server maybe?) in the properties of TCP/IP on your DNS server.
Basically you need to point ALL AD CLIENTS to the DNS server that houses the
DNS zone for your domain (The DNS server is an AD client). Point the AD DNS
server to itself for DNS, during logon the proper SRV records will get
registered, point all AD clients to the DNS server set up for AD, so they
can find the SRV records registered by the server. For Internet access set
up forwarding or use root hints.

Re: DNS error |

This error can occur because of a common DNS mis-configuration. We need
more details on your setup. Can you please provide the following
information:
1) Domain name from Active Directory Users & Computers
2) List of all Forward Lookup Zones in the DNS console
3) Output of ipconfig /all from the problem machines (an unedited version -
please do not make any changes)
Check the Event Viewer logs for any pertinent errors and run first the
support tools netdiag & dcdiag on your domain controllers to see if any
problems exist such as DNS, network connectivity, and/or replication issues.

The record is ldap not Idap. It is a lower case "L" for LDAP for light
directory access protocol.
