I originally installed XP Pro SP2 from the public windows update site. I
have since installed all the available updates to SP2 from the same site. I
downloaded the SP2 for IT Professionials and created an install package for
the SP in the OU for desktops. My machine was in the OU and reinstalled SP2
on the next boot. Did the reinstallation overwrite updated files that were
applied to the original installation of SP2, & why did the system not know
that SP2 was already installed? I went back to the windows update site &
checked, but the machine still has the original installations of the SP
updates in history so it shows that they are not needed. If I need them
again, is there a way to reset them other than uninstalling the updates and
then going back to the update site?
