The network worked fine for the first 3 months of existence (a brand new dell
powerserver, and all new dell workstations). Now, over the last few days,
we've been having sporadic losses of connectivity from the workstations to
the sbs 2003 server. ping -t shows a few losses from the workstations to the
server, but not too many. Unfortunately, these sporadic losses crash my
customers quickbooks program.

First I thought it might be the old wiring. I ran new wires directly to the
dell switch for all the workstations and the server. The same problem.

I ran NAV corp and found nothing. Adaware found 7 items, but still the same
problem.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, plus is there some way to test the
connectivity from the server to the workstations?

Thanks!

What connection speed are the nics set for. Some folks have had issues
with Intel nics and Dell switches. Not neccessarily the combination
but those 2 products. Try setting the server and workstation nics to
autosense.

Please define "ran new wiring." I have seen 6 month old new wiring
fail testing because of improper installation.

I am having exactly the same problem. It started about two months ago. I have
a Dell server and six Dell workstations running XP SP 2. The problem is more
pronounced when I log in remotely over a VPN, but all of my local
workstations drop off occasionally. I have an ethernet protocol analyzer on
the network to monitor network traffic and I don't see anything out of the
ordinary when a workstation drops off.

Are there any more ideas out there?
