sbs 03 dual nic dns question |
|
|
what is the proper setup of the dns server service on an sbs 2003 premium
server with ISA 2000 and 2 nic's (internal/external)? Should the dns server
service be running on both nics?
FWIW there is a hardware firewall/router in front of the external nic. so
should it route incoming dns to the external nic of the sbs server then ISA
handles it somehow or no, too confusing?
thanks |

As far as I know the DNS server should not be bound to the external NIC.

This is what I think is correct as well, I'm looking for confirmation from
others.
Thanks

When configuring DNS on both nics it should point to the IP Address of the
internal nic.
When you run the CEICW wizard it will ask for the IP address of your ISPs
DNS servers which the internal DNS will setup as forwarders for you.

Yes, if you let the Connect to the Internet Wizard do it's job, it will bind
both NIC's to the DNS server of the server itself. This is the way it should
work.
