Outlook 2003 Mail Alerts |
|
|
Hi I have a customer with SBS 2003 Server and a client PC with XP Pro and
Outlook 2003.
It seems that the only way to advise the user that a mail has arrived is for
a small mail icon to appear in the bottom right hand corner and a message
block to appear solid if required for up to 30 seconds and play a sound.
Now the boss isn't into computers and won't go into Outlook to check for
mail unless a big alert comes up and stays in the middle of the screen till
he clicks it. Is there any way to get something like this?
I don't think it comes as standard?
Any ideas?
Many thanks Rock. |

You can create an Outlook rule on the boss's machine to dispaly a message of
your choice in a New Item Alert window. Create a rule to check messages
when they arrive, use "through the specified account" choosing his/her
Exchange profile, then "dispaly a specific message in the New Item Alert
window." Although Outlook refers to the pop-up in the lower right as "New
Item Alert," the rule will pop up a different (additional) notification that
will appear on top of the open windows.
IMO, speaking as someone who's in front of Outlook all day, your boss is
probably more productive by ignoring his e-mail until he gets around to it
rather than allowing himself to be interrupted by every message. (I allow
myself to be interrupted by every message, so I know what a time-waster this
is).
