Connect Computer Error |
|
|
Setting up a new sbs 2003 server and 3 clients. Upon connecting last computer
with \\server\connectcomputer things seemed to go well but after rebooting I
ended up with a new user account _sbs_user or something like that and the
computer is not connected to the domain. It seems that the connection failed
at the automatic reboot.
Now when I redo \\server\connectcomputer I make a connection, choose the
user, enter password, and assign the computer. I then get the information
summary of what is about to happen the hit next to proceed. At this point I
get the error "an error occured when configuring networking settings. See
your network administrator."
The client computer has been stand alone for the past year, has dial-up
internet access. I've made sure that the firewall is disabled, ip address and
dns both dynamically assigned just like the other 2 computers that connected
successfully and configured.
I also tried to then manually join the domain without the wizard and the
error was similiar: "The following error occurred attempting to join the
omain "csll.local": The network path was not found.
Any ideas? Should I delete this new account and try again?

Re: Connect Computer Error |

Mariette and Chris,
I resolved the problem. As I said this computer had been in operation for
the past year. What I did not notice is that the Norton Anti-Virus was not
operating correctly. There was no icon in the task bar indicating that it was
even doing it's work but upon closer inspection when I reviewed the Norton
settings it was infact set on Auto and was probably working unseen in the
background.
I uninstalled Norton since I could not temporarily disable it and the ran
\\server\connectcomputer without any problems. I then reinstalled Norton and
did a full virus scan - just in case. I've seen Norton get wigged out before
and cause network problems with database access. If I had seen the Norton
icon in the task bar I would have disabled it before starting the install
just to be safe.
Thanks for your quick response(s) and I hope this information helps
someone else. I would guess it is always good to disable Anti-Virus before
attempting the connectcomputer task.
