Receiving Exchange Email |

I have setup Exchange on SBS 2003 and can successfully send and receive
emails internally. I can also send mails to external addresses, but am unable
to receive any messages back.
When an external address tries to send an email to me they receive the
following error:
did not reach the following recipient(s):
name.name@domainname.com on Tue, 18 Jan 2005 15:19:11 -0000
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message
was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient
directly to find out the correct address.

I currently use a Dynamically assigned IP from my ISP to connect to the
internet. The server has been setup with two NICS (the internal one with
static 10.7.2.xx address. I have contacted my domain name registrar and
changed the "A" record to point my external IP and have changed the MX Record
to point to "domainname.com".
I am able to access the RWW logon page via www.domainname.com/remote so it
appears to be working, but still I am unable to receive external emails.
Can you help please??

Hi Iain
You will have to get a Static IP from your ISP or use a Dynamic IP provider
like dyndns.org

Can you test it via Telnet? From a computer outside your LAN go to Start->
run-> Telnet x.x.x.x 25 (where x.x.x.x is the public IP address or dns
address of the sbs box).
If this works then make sure the MX/A records are correct. You can use
www.dnsreports.com or www.dnsstuff.com for this.

This is all well and good but if the response from the server is "The e-mail
account does not exist at the organization" it is likely it is hitting your
exchange box.
I believe that if you have a .local domain and you haven't configured your
server correctly then all you will have is user@domain.local and thus no
external users will be able to send mail to you. check in the default
recipient policy that you have SMTP addresses for your external domain.

Thanks for that.
Why do I need to get a static IP? The DHCP Address I get from my ISP hardly
ever changes and surely, as long as this is the case (and I'm willing to
amend any settings if it does), then I shouldn't need a static IP.
Could it be a time issue with changing the MX Records with my registrar? I
only changed them aroung 4 hours ago and I have just noticed a slight
difference in the Exchange logs.
Whereas before, the messages I was sending from an external address to my
name.name@domainname.com addresses were bouncing back to the sender, they now
are not. However I am still not receivng them into my Exchange mailboxes.
Instead they show up in the logs as the following:
SMTP: Message submitted to queuing.
SMTP: Started message submission to advanced queue.
SMTP: Message submitted to categorization.
SMTP: Message categorized and queued for routing.
SMTP: Non Delivered Report (NDR) generated.
Before there was nothing showing up in the logs at all regarding the
messages I was trying to send.
Any more help would be appreciated.
