Disappearing SBS in the network environment |
|
|
Hello everybody,
with two of our SBS 2003 installations we've now had the problem that the
server itself "suddenly" disappeared from the domain in the Network
Environment. I could still ping it without any problem, but I couldn't
connect any network folders, etc.
Having "desperately" tried to find the error, I reinstalled one fairly new
system, which now works fine again. But I'm sure this cannot be the
solution...
Maybe anyone has made similar experiences? I found some enquiries via
google, but there were no really useful answers - at least they didn't help
in our case.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions! |

I've never seen this happen. And since browsing doesn't have anything to do
with access (you can access \\server\share even with NetBIOS over TCP/IP
disabled) this may not be related, but due to a common underlying problem on
the server. Did you check the event logs on the server(s)? On the client(s)?
Pinging doesn't tell you much - could be that some services have failed on
the servers themselves.

Yeah, I don't think so either. Users tend to get a little annoyed when you
rebuild a domain every week. :)

Post back with event log details, if you can get to a site where this is
currently happening. |

Hi there,
thanks for your info. I checked the eventlog - but *I* didn't find anything
that I thought was of importance or would have helped me.
I'll try to get the eventlog of the second server asap.
