Number of users |
|
|
We are planning on a server for a company with 35 in-office employees, and
roughly 150 employees that only visit the office. The 35 in-office users
will be connected to the domain and use network resources. The 150 employees
that visit the office we'd like to set up email accounts for. They have no
need for any network access.
With the total email accounts I need being over the SBS limit of 75 users,
but not needing them all setup as domain users, most only needing email, my
question is, can you create exchange email accounts in SBS without having to
add each as an actual user? |

Hi
you can create as many users as you wish ( exchange user needs to be a
domain user) limited to only 75 users / clients connected at any one time..
Will more than 75 connect at any one time ?
How do you propose for them to access emails (remotely and inhouse)

Remember, while the server licensing "checker" only looks at concurrent
licenses, the licensing "law" is for either each device, or each user.
So, right off the bat, you'll be violating Microsoft licensing for SBS,
since you'd need 185 licenses to be properly configured.

Sure, you can do this.
If the 150 users that 'visit' the office check their email from one or more
workstations, these workstations are an obvious candidate for Device CALs,
where the device is licensed to connect to the SBS no matter who the user
is.

Hi Matt
Sorry, confused by your thinking...
If we had device Cals (i.e pc) this will allow infinite people to logon

Only from a certain number of machines though. You cannot have a roaming
pool of devices. Each device needs it's OWN cal.
