SNA Client Uninstall and HIClient Install |
|
|
I am trying to automate the upgrade our clients from SNA95 and SNA Client to
Host Integration Server Clients. We have Win95, W2K, XP, and WINNT clients
with either SNA or SNA95 Client installed. The uninstall of SNA95 Client
from Control Panel, Add/Remove does not work on many of our client pc's. If
I use the SNA95 Client uninstall of: acmsetup /u /q /t c:\sna95\snafile.stf
to uninstall and then install HIClient, the pc does not make a successful
connection to the mainframe. It looks like uninstallation of SNA95 Client
does not completely uninstall itself. If I manually uninstall SNA95 Client
by removing entries from the registry and by deleting all SNA95 files and
then install HIClient, the pc will successfully make a connection to the
mainframe. Is there an automated way or a command line or a switch or a
script to completely uninstall the SNA Client from the registry without
having to manually delete each registry key? |

Angela,
I've not been in your position, but why not automate the removal of the
registry keys using reg.exe ? That's what I've done in other situations to
clear up keys that uninstalls don't touch.

Angela,
Neil makes a good point here. You should be able to automate removing the
offending registry entries this way.
What version of SNA are you upgrading from? Is this a Web Client install,
or a normal install?

reg.exe is usually in your <windir>\system32 directory. Use at your own
risk.
C:\utils>type whereis.cmd
