I have HIS 2000 SP1 running on Window 2000 SP3. I am connected to an
Amdahl mainfram via a Bustech ESCON card (multiple channels configured
but only one used). I only use this for TN3270 connections from
remote locations via VPN. Is there a way to use a secondary IP
address on the HIS server and bind it to a particular LU's??

Bottom line: TN3270 client uses one IP address and is sent to one
channel, if he uses the other IP address is sent to a different
channel.

David - you can restrict access to an LUA or pool of LUA's to an IP address if
you want. That sounds like what you're trying to do. (I'm guessing you're
hide NAT'ing all your VPN connections behind one "internal" IP address)

The TN3270 service does not provide any mechanism to bind LU's to a
particular local IP address. There are a few work arounds that might help
funnel traffic to the appropriate LUs
1. LUs can be assigned to a IP subnet. If the two IP addresses were
connected to different network segments then this type of aasignment would
allow you to tie the LUs to an IP address (because it services a particular
subnet).
2. LUs can be assigned to ports. The users would specify a different
port for one set of LUs and another port for another set of LUs.

After seeing Neil's reply, I realized I thought you meant a multi-homed
server with clients pointed at differnt IP addresses on the server. If the
clients are coming from different IP addresses, then, as Neil pointed out,
you can assign the LUs to a IP address (or subnet or workstation name).
This option in the in the LU properties under the "IP address list" tab.

First of all thanks for the quick responses.

As Chris said I wish to have TN3270 clients hit different IP addresses
that takes them to particular LU's. I don't care which clients hit
which IP address just as long as they go to the right LU. However
that sounds like something I cannot setup in HIS (bummer). Any
possiblity that this functionality is in HIS 2004??

There was no change in this area for HIS 2004. Is the goal to have the
clients not make any configuration changes on their side? So they are
pointing at "SNASrv1" and something under the covers is getting them to one
address or the other? It seems that whatever mechanism is getting them to
an IP address would be tied to the subnet they came from. Then you could
then restrict the LUs to those subnets.

If the clients are specifying different IP addresses, then why not have them
specify different ports instead?

What's wrong with one IP address but multiple tcp ports (e.g. 4123, 4124,
4125....) instead of multiple tcp-ip addresses all listening on the same port?

Any TN3270 client will let you change the port it connects on.

You mentioned VPN's, so you could use your firewall/VPN terminating device if
you really wanted to change the connection. e.g. user connects to IP1 port
23, you translate to IP0 port 4123. user connects to IP2 port 23, you
translate to IP0 port 4124. etc.
