Hi,

I've just started a SPS site, but WSS and SPS were already installed. I
need to have SPS installed in Active Directory Account Creation Mode and not
Domain Account Mode. How can I tell which mode was installed with? What's
the litmus test to determine this? How does these modes really differ in a
Sharepoint implementation?

With SPS you only use Domain account mode.

With WSS you can use either Domain Account mode or Active Directory account
mode, which you configure when you install WSS. You determine which mode to
use when you first install and configure Windows SharePoint Services, and
you cannot switch between modes later. If WSS is installed as part of the
SPS install, then you do not get a choice, in this scenario WSS is installed
in Domain account mode. If you have a WSS only install, the only way I know
of distinguishing this is that when you are in Active Directory account
mode, there are certain administrative tasks that are unavailable in the
HTML Administration pages. For example, you cannot create a top-level Web
site, you cannot enable Self-Service Site Creation, and you cannot add a
user to a site from the Central Administration pages. To perform these
actions in Active Directory account mode, you must use the object model. So
have a look at the HTML admin pages.

More information of these two modes can be found in the WSS Admin help file.

Regards
Penny
