HIS 2004 Password Synchronization Setup |
|
|
I was just given the task of evaluating Host Integration Server 2004 for
password synchronization between Active Directory (I have 4 domain
controllers in the network ) and several AS/400's and 1 IBM ES9000 system.
Since we are only interested in the password synchronization, I am using a
Windows XP Professional SP2 computer to run HIS 2004. I am also trying to
run it with the latest MS SQL MSDE version instead of the full blown MS SQL
2000 SP3a. I have been trying to find some documentation to walk me through
the setup of the password synchronization. The documentation that came with
the evaluation download and the latest online Help file do not seem to
provide very detailed setup procedures. I have already installed HIS 2004
and MSDE. If anyone can point me in the direction of some step by step
documentation or provide detailed setup procedures as to what components need
to be installed and how to configure them, I would be very grateful.

Jeff - the below whitepaper is the best doco currently available.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/6/5/C65FF9FD-0ED7-47F6-91AB-000E6265EA
5B/Enterprise_SSO_Whitepaper.doc
Also, are you planning on going live on XP Pro? It's fine for testing, but for
live usage a server o/s and proper SQL Server would be recommended - at least
that way you get all the SQL Server admin tools to make your life easier.

Neil, if we decide to go live with HIS 2004, we will install to a server and
use the full version of SQL 2000. I saw that someone else is trying to do
the same thing as me (just password synchronization with AD, AS/400, OS390).
I think I am at the point of getting some adapters to work. If you can offer
any other suggestions or gotcha's to watch out for I would appreciate it.
thanks

Jeff,
I'm afraid that the password synch function of HIS is one that I've never used in
anger as none of the sites I've worked at have wanted it. As I don't have a
mainframe of my own it's not one I could do in a testbed. :-(

If you are interested in Password Synchronization with HIS 2004 and ESSO,
you will need to purchase a 3rd party password sync adapter. At this time,
Proginet is the only partner that offers Password Synch Adapters that
integrate with ESSO. You cna find more information regarding these at
http://eps.proginet.com. These are required for both one-way and two-way
password synchronization between Windows and non-Windows systems when using
ESSO.
