Been trying to work out whether we are "in sync" time wise or not !
The "Windows Time" Service is disabled - should i enable it as automatic ? |

The default configuration of the Windows Time service is automatic when
Win2K or newer is joined to a domain. When clients are joined to a Active
Directory domain, they participate in a domain hierarchy of time sync.
Basically member workstations and servers get their time from the
authenticating DC. DCs get their time from the DC that holds the PDC FSMO
role. The DC that holds the PDC FSMO generally syncs to an external time
source.
The only thing you should have to do in a domain is visit the PDC FSMO and
configure it to acquire time from an external source.
So the big question is... where you having troubles with the Time Service
and was it disabled to troubleshoot other issues?

Hi,
Sorry - didn't give any info at all.
The service is not active on the SBS03
Should it be if i`m only going to sync SBS clients to the SBS03 clock?
Or only if i want to sync the SBS to an external time server ?
There is no reason that i know of that it is already disabled !?! Assumed
it was like that "Out the box"

Depending on your configuration the Time service can be set to manual (this
is done to prevent constant connections when using dial-up). Are you using
ISA or not?
If you are not using ISA then simply set the service to automatic and follow
this article:

"Configuring the Windows Time service to use an external time source"
section).
If you are using ISA then you have to make sure UDP 123 (not TCP) is set to
send/receive.

The windows time service is set to disabled by the CEICW (Connect to the
Internet Wizard) in all cases, *except* where you select 'full time
broadband' as the connection type. So if that is not your connection type,
and you want the time service running on your SBS, then you have to remember
to enable it after running the wizard, every time.
You probably won't forget forever, as the service will log errors to remind
you.
