Network Node Server |
|
|
I just installed HIS 2004. The OS/390 was configured for VTAM with an IP
address. I added a IPDLC link server. However when I try to start the
connection it fails with a message that the (network node server) NNS may not
be active or configured. Do you know how to configure this in VTAM? We
can't find this information anywhere. Also note, after TCPIP was defined for
VTAM, we can't ping that address, but we can ping the mainframe address. Not
sure if that provides a clue. HELP! |

The OS/390 VTAM and TCP/IP components must be configured as follows:
1. Switch on the HPR support and CP-CP session support start options
2. Define an XCA (External Communications Adapter) Major Node for HPR/IP
3. Enable VTAM to be a TCP/IP application.
4. Switched Major Nodes for PUs SYS1.VTAMST(member)
Take a look at the "Configuring IP-DLC Link Service for IBM Enterprise
Extender" white paper on
http://www.microsoft.com/hiserver/techinfo/whitepapers/2004/default.asp

All of your suggestions are completed and we refered to the HIS 2004 white
paper, however there is still one question. Is the Primary NNS defined in
the link service the IP address of VTAM on the mainframe or the VIPA address?
I can ping the VTAM address, but I can't ping the VIPA address.
Thank you.

You can have many VIPA addresses on the mainframe - to enable each "service" to
have an address that can be moved between lpar's in a sysplex as needed.
But anyway, as you most likely need to target a specific lpar anyway, and will
have HPR support on each LPAR as needed, I reckon it should be the local "VTAM"
IP address on the lpar you're connecting to.

Neil,
I tried using the VIPA address, but I do not get a ping response from this
address.

If it doesn't respond to a ping, could there be a routing issue on the mainframe?

Just got word back that problem in my HIS configuration is that HPR Support
is set to None. How do I set to available or active?

HPR is a link service on HIS. Do you mean on the mainframe it's set to none?
