I just installed LCS 2005, no access proxy or proxy, just LCS. I have
enabled a test account to be allowed remote access on his user properties,
and have opened 5060 and 5061 TCP from the PIX to the server. I have also
added the SRV record into DNS as well, the user is prompted for his sign-in
name, username and password, they type it in as they would internally (which
works with no problems) and click ok... Windows Messenger says, "signing
in...." then it says

"Signing in to sip communications service failed because the sign-in name,
username, or password is incorrect, or the authentication service is not
compatible with this version of the program. If you have signed in correctly
and the problem persists, contact your network administrator."

Am i missing something, I thought an access proxy was no needed for remote
users...Thanks, any help would be REALLY appreciated!

If you are traversing a firewall please make sure
1) if you are using TCP make sure you have WM 5.1 and above. ( WM 5.0 will
not work)
2) TLS should work fine even with WM 5.0.

As you are getting prompted for credentials the client actually exchanged
SIP messages with the server..

If you still have problems... can you please post the logs from the client
side when it fails to sign in.

To enable client side logging on a PC set the
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Tracing\RTCDLL\EnableFileTracing"
registry key to 1 and then restart Windows messenger. A log file is then
created in the users %USERPROFILE%\Tracing directory (unless you configure
another location)

Thanks,
Dhigha
