Migrate Windows 2000 Forest into Windows 2003 Forest |
|
|
Hello,
I've done a fair amount of searching on this subject, and haven't found
exactly what I'm looking for yet, so I was hoping someone here could
help out.
My company has a subsidiary company that runs a Windows 2000 Active
Directory (call it subsidiary.com). The main company has just upgraded
their NT4 domain to Windows 2003 AD (call it company.com). These are
each in two completely seperate forests.
Eventually, the subsidiary would like to be brought into the fold,
perhaps as a subdomain of the main company (subsidiary.company.com).
Is this sort of migration possible? If so, using what utilities?
Thanks much,
Gabe |

Hi Gabe,
you can use ADMT v2 to migrate User an Computer accounts into the new
domain.
Download page of ADMT v2: http://snipurl.com/44k1
I suggest reviewing Ch 10: Restructuring Windows NT 4.0 Domains to an Active
Directory Forest in Designing and Deploying Directory and Security Services
(http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=15308) in the Microsoft Windows
Server 2003 Deployment Kit
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/reskit/deploykit.mspx).
This chapter describes our recommended practices for restructuring using
ADMT and recommends the order that migration operations should occur.
Bye!

Yes, you need to create two-way trust between two domains and use ADMT to
migrate all information from subsidiary.com to company.com as Massimiliano
has stated since they are in the different forest.
The following article has detailed ADMT:
