Why can't user accounts with ntfs permissions do what you want by not giving
permissions to folders for users that you do not want to access?? I am not
sure what you mean by (Because the malefactor could use an other computer to
access files). If you meant that someone could get physical access to the
computer to access the files, then that is true and the only possible
solution would be a well planned encryption strategy for those files.
Windows 2000 has EFS but it is not designed to allow users to share an
encrypted file, though Windows 2003 Server can allow multiple users to
access an EFS encrypted file. However it is not easily scalable to a large
number of users. --- Steve

is there a software for windows 2000 server (maybe with client software),
to expand the security of win2000srv with things like password protection
for shared folders (that needs a client-software).
The Situation:
1 Server many Clients (members of domain and not members of domain)..
I want that some files and folders only can be accessed with password.
(Because the malefactor could use an other computer to access files).
many thanks..
and please excuse my bad english..
