DFS Site information not being updated after moveing a serve

I have 2 servers in one site and I have made my DFS tree with FRS
replication and all, now I moved one server to a different site, (over a
slow link) I have the "/insite" command set as I only want clients to be
able to contact the local server. But when I do a "dfsutil /root:(domain
name) /view" all the "Sites" are the first site even though the server is
now in the second site..

I searched around a bit and came up with a QB on the problem saying you have
to remake the tree in order to update the site info, but that was talking
about win2k, I have win2003 and hope I don't have to do that. Is there
anyway to get the site info to update? Will it just take some time to
update? Or do I have to do something manually. (I hope it won't involve
having to resync the servers)

Thanks

this is very likely due to " SiteSupportIntervalInSeconds " registry value.
its 12 hours by default. It could take up to 24 hours for you to get the
results you want.
Please see the "Target Site Cache" section in the dfs technical reference.

Try restarting the DFS service on the root servers as well.

ok so it will work that's good news... I moved the server back to site1 as
it wasn't working right... the "Site" for this server is still site2 even
though it as a site1 IP address.. Will DFS move the DFS targets to site2
just because that's what site AD says it's a site2 server? Or will it look
at the IP address and leave it in Site1 till the server is moved back to a
site2 IP address...

How are you moving the server between sites? We've seen issues lately where
a customer will drag-and-drop a server in AD from one site to another
without updating the server's IP address so that it belongs to the other
site's subnet. This will cause problems for DFS, and it might be what you
are seeing.

Yes that may be it; I just "Moved" the server in AD sites and services, to
site2... but at this point it's still has an IP address from site1... I just
wanted to test things before physically moving it to site2 and giving it a
site2 IP. I thought that DFS would just read the info from AD regardless of
what IP was still set on the server, but I guess not...

This is not a problem, all I want to know is that when I finally do move
this server to site2 both physically and in AD Sites, the links will update
to the right site without me having to redo anything... cuz that will be the
last step and I don't' want to have to re-replicate or remake the DFS tree
that late in the game..

Yes, when the server finally gets its Site2 IP address, the site info should
update within 24 hours. The techref link that Glenn provided earlier
explains how this works.
