Hi all,

I have a DFS configuration which uses a Domain based Root with 2 Root Targets:

ie; Root:\\domain.local\data, Targets: Server1, Server2

Then I have some link targets beneath that.

\\domain.local\data\<department>, Target: Server<1/2>

There are 3 links on Server1, and two links on Server2.

I have 2 domain controllers (Server1, Server2) on seperate routed segments
working fine under normal conditions. If I cause a loss of connectivity
between the two servers, DFS fails to operate on Server2, locally. The DFS
MMC also looses contact with the DFS

If I reconnect the link (Server 1 is disconnected from the Server1 side of
the router) the links reappear and the error condition is resolved.

Clients also are unable to access the DFS namespace \\doamin.local\data.

The error reported is:
Title: \\domain.local
MsgBox: "\\domain.local\data is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact <....blah...> fiind out if
you have access permissions.
The account is not authorized to log in from this station"

Clients fail with a "Path not found" error.

My use of DFS is planned to provide a single namespace for all departmental
fileshares, despite geographical organisational division. Basically, a single
S:\ drive allows redirected access to data at the right location, meanwhile
keeping the files located closest the the end users. If I loose a link, and
the result is a failure of the DFS namespace, then the solution is invalid.

Can anyone tell me where I might have gone wrong, wether my plan is wrong or
what steps I should take to try and resolve the error?

Many thanks,
Greg
