Hi folks,

I'm struggling with getting FRS running properly. I had a windows 2000
server operating fine with web hosting. I added a windows 2003 server to the
domain and am trying to replicate 3 folders to the second server. I'm
constantly getting Event ID 13508 on all 3 folders and very very very rarely
sometime later a 13509 on 1 or 2. Two of the folders have successfully
replicated. The third of the folders has replicted 2 of 400 subfolders and
nothing more.

I have tried all the troubleshooting paths given in the KB for 13508 errors.
DNS between the servers is fine. I can connect fine with RPC between the
servers. AD is otherwise replicating fine except for one issue, which always
appears in the event log within 10 minutes or so of the 13508 errors. This
is a SceCli Event ID 1202 error -

Security policies were propagated with warning. 0x534 : No mapping between
account names and security IDs was done.

Now, when I follow the troubleshooting for this, I find the problem is
apparently with an earlier removed account NetShowServices. Now, when I run
RSoP to find the policy problem, it reports NetShowServices as listed on two
account rights with the Domain Controller Policy. Fair enough - but ....
when I go and try to and remove it from the policy ... it's not there! I
have checked on both servers directly. I've checked Local Policy, Domain
Policy, Domin Controller Policy. I can't find the account listed anywhere
:-(

So, I don't know if this is causing the FRS problem or is just another
symptom of the same problem. I've been fighting with this for more than a
week, so any suggestions appreciated!

thanks,
david

I've now removed all replicating folders. So now I'm down to a single 13508
error and only on the older w2k DC. The error is -
---------------------------
The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling replication from
SB-3 to SERVER215 for c:\winnt\sysvol\domain using the DNS name
sb-3.asgard.net. FRS will keep retrying.
Following are some of the reasons you would see this warning.
[1] FRS can not correctly resolve the DNS name sb-3.asgard.net from this
computer.
[2] FRS is not running on sb-3.asgard.net.
[3] The topology information in the Active Directory for this replica has
not yet replicated to all the Domain Controllers.
This event log message will appear once per connection, After the problem is
fixed you will see another event log message indicating that the connection
has been established.
--------------------------

1. name resolution seems to be fine. I can ping, I can RPCPing, I can logon
to either server and connect a driver to the others sysvol share without any
issues at all.

2. FRS is definitely running on both machines

3. DCDIAG shows no problems. Checking AD and DNS on either machine gives the
same info. Changes to AD replicate quickly and without error.

Netdiag reports no errors. Dcdiag reports no errors except noting the 13508
errors in the log. Where else should i be looking?

thanks,
david
